When you are driving your vehicle this winter, make sure you inspect it on a regular basis. This will help make sure that your vehicle is at top performance levels when you drive it. Part of inspecting the vehicle includes the tires. The tires are an important because they allow you to drive to your destination, as well as stop the vehicle when you need to. If the tires are in poor condition, it could increase the chance for an accident to occur. There are certain things that you will need to check on the tires. This includes the tread, air pressure, alignment, and overall condition of the tires. Also remember to check the spare tire when you check the regular tires. The spare tire is just as important because you will have to rely on the spare until the regular tire can be fixed. If you are ever unsure of what the proper condition of the tires are, make sure to bring the vehicle in as soon as possible so we can inspect it.

The Tread should be Inspected

The first thing that should be inspected on the tires is the tread wear. If there is low tread, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect it. If the tread is below ideal condition, a new set of tires may be needed. The tread is important because it helps the tire to grip the surface of the road when you are driving. It will also help maintain control and handling when you drive on poor roads. Check the tread can be quick and easy. Just take a penny and place it upside down in the groove of the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then the tread is too low.

Air Pressure is Important for Efficiency

Also make sure to check the air pressure in each tire. This should be done on a regular basis to ensure proper inflation. Each tire should meet the proper amount of air pressure that is designated in the vehicle owner’s manual. If the tires are under inflated it could lead to poor wear. It could also mean an increase for the chance of a blow out. If the tires are over inflated, they will have less contact with the surface of the road. This can result in a bouncy and uncomfortable ride. Over inflated tires are also more prone to pick up sharp objects that might be on the surface of the road. If you are unsure how much air should be in the tires of the vehicle, make sure to bring it in. We can inspect the air pressure in the tires to ensure they are at the proper amount.

Do Not Forget About the Spare Tire

When you check the tires, also remember to inspect the spare tire. The tire will need to be inspected for tread wear, air pressure, and the overall condition of it. You can bring the vehicle in and we will check the spare tire for you. If the spare tire has a leak or suffers from dry rot, a new spare tire may be needed. This way you can be ready incase a tire goes flat while you are traveling.
