While safety is an important consideration all year long, there are some safety inspections that are specific to winter driving that are a good idea to check into before we’re knee deep in the season. Always remember to go to regular maintenance inspections. If you are not sure how often to bring your vehicle in, contact us, and we can advise you on when the vehicle should have inspections.

Freezing temps, salted roads, and wintery precipitation can do damage to your vehicle if you are not prepared. Make sure to check the antifreeze for the vehicle. This is an essential part of your car’s winter protection. Your car contains a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Make sure the level is full and the mixture is close to 50/50. You can also bring your vehicle in and we can check it for you.

Also remember to check the tread, condition, and air pressure on the tires. The old penny test is as reliable as anything to find out whether your treads are ready for winter action. When it gets colder out, they will start to lose air pressure. If the tire starts to get low often, it could mean there is a leak in the tire. Make sure to bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the tires for you.

The windshield wipers should also be inspected. They will help remove any precipitation, road grime, or other debris that could be on the windshield. Over time, this can impair your visibility when you drive. If you notice that the windshield wipers do not clean the windshield efficiently, invest in a new pair. You will also be using quite a bit of washer fluid through the winter as well. Make sure the washer fluid reservoir is topped off. You can also have a container of washer fluid in the back of your vehicle, incase you run out and there is not a gas station nearby.
